Tetramethylsilane has been recommended by the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) as a universal reference for all nuclides. It is commonly used as a reference standard in nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) for measuring proton chemical shifts and the temperature dependence of the 1H chemical shift of TMS in solvents such as Chloroform-d, Methanol-d4, and DMSO-d6 is studied.
